The colourful Japanese dragon, a half of their cultural mythology for hundreds of years, represents balance, freedom, and good luck. Its fearsome and warlike qualities make it a beautiful ally or a fierce enemy. Most people have heard stories about the knight slaying the dragon and profitable the love of the princess. Among many historic cultures, slaying the dragon is amongst the highest honors an individual can achieve. Think of the tales of St. George or Beowulf, though in each, the dragon may also symbolize pre-Christian thought. The Eastern dragon is seen as a noble beast that offers wisdom and safety whereas in historical Western culture, it represents a much darker and extra threatening creature.
